Beautiful Materials: Magazines
February in Florida has been deeply nourishing.
Our family has moved twice in the past 4 months and has been weaving together a new community in a new place in a difficult time. But these warm sunny days where the kids spend hours climbing trees and picking flowers and stacking pinecones has felt like a balm to this exhausted mama’s soul.
The past few weeks in our new home, despite the unpacking and finding time for my own personal schoolwork, has been a magical inhalation of natural beauty and wonder.
We have been baking bread, sewing, finger knitting, loom making, piano-playing, reading aloud in our screened-in Florida room, and admiring all the steps the baby of the house has been taking.
That said, we have cycled through a few different magazine subscriptions over the years that have ignited us when we’ve grown bored and uninspired.
Honest History: Each issue takes a period of history and brings it too life with great activities and content. This is my 8 year old’s favorite!
Eco Kids Planet: A deep dive into different animals and habitats. My 8 year old loves this one too.
Bravery Mag & their Companion Guides: These feature admiration-worthy women. There’s a portion for children and a portion for adults within each issue. Crafts, biographies, and overall great content.
Dot: This is great one for little people (5 and under).
Nat Geo Kids: This is good, but a regular Nat Geo subscription is probably a better bang for your buck.
Ditto: We just ordered this one. It’s a kid’s magazine geared toward justice and anti-racism.
